In Memory of Tom Hamilton-Dick

As Deputy Principal at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, and as a Trustee with Skills and Education Group, Tom gave his all to the further education and skills sector. His passion, professionalism and commitment to his colleagues and the learners for whom he worked tirelessly are an inspiration to us all. We dedicate this report to Tom: his impact continues to guide us personally and professionally, and will not be forgotten.

We miss you dearly, Tom.

WELCOME

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

I have a passion for further education.

I love it.

I love it with every breath.

It has been my career for twenty five years, and it’s a fundamental part of who I am because it has transformed my life in so many ways.

Principal and Chief Executive of Hull College and Trustee of Skills and Education Group Access

“As a Skills and Education Group trustee, I’m proud to be part of a well-qualified team helping to steer the Group’s strategic direction. We have a real mission for social justice and social mobility, and the work we do outside of awarding qualifications is really quite special. I think we change lives every day.”

WELCOME

Simply the Best

Welcome to our 2022/23 Impact Report. Each year, Skills and Education Group produces this report to showcase our impact
on further education (FE) and skills training organisations, staff
and learners.

Chair of Trustees for Skills and Education Group

Atholl has been our Chair of Trustees since 2017 and plays a key role in ensuring that our services are tailored to meet the specific priorities, values and expectations of everyone we support. A former Chair of RNN Group and a national leader of the Governance for the Association of Colleges (AoC), Atholl has many years of experience in the further education sector. He also serves as the Chief Executive of Action Housing & Support, a charity that acts as a “social landlord” by providing accommodation and support to vulnerable individuals.

Level Up

Focused on the theme of “Levelling Up”, Skills and Education Group’s Annual Conference took place in May 2023, with a range of speakers sharing their perspectives on how the further education and skills sector can help ensure equal opportunities across the country.

“I think it’s really important to sponsor the Skills and Education Group conference. They’re obviously one of the leading awarding organisations in the country, and as you can see from the event itself, they’ve got some of the best Centres, best training providers, the best colleges around in the country. It’s a very influential event
to attend.”

Mandy Hardy teaches students who come from as far as the east coast and West Yorkshire. They are from varying backgrounds and can be difficult to reach, as the vast majority have not engaged in full-time education for up to four years. When they arrive at facilities at the White Rose, they are raw in nature and often averse to education.

Be True to Your School

A Message from Yultan

Reflecting on the last year, we have seen a number of positive developments, including growth in the number of customers with whom we work and an increase in the number of Diploma qualifications we validate.

Chair of Skills and Education Group Access

Yultan has an absolute passion for further education, having worked with many young people and adults who were nervous about starting their college journey but went on to achieve amazing personal successes way beyond their wildest dreams. As well as supporting students to meet their own aspirations, she believes the sector has a truly positive economic and social impact in the wider community. As Chair of Skills and Education Group Access, Yultan is delighted to see adults return to learning to study an Access to HE Diploma and then progress to university and into a successful career.

This past year Skills and Education Group went global, delivering awarding and education services across Turkey, India, the UAE and Sri Lanka. Just like in the UK, we’re championing local skills and helping to improve the quality of skills and education programming for those who need it most. And this is just the beginning: as we continue to build our international presence, we look forward to reaching new markets, building strong partnerships with like-minded organisations, and advancing social mobility for individuals everywhere.

We’re proud to have partnered with the international awarding body, UK Awards. Together, we’re meeting the needs of employers and learners in the UK and abroad.
